News: Blu Wireless and Ependion in Strategic Partnership
by Alan Jones
Blu Wireless, the leader in mmWave radio networking technology, has announced that Ependion’s business entity Westermo has entered into a strategic partnership agreement to use Blu Wireless’ patented mmWave wireless technology in the rail market.
The groundbreaking Blu Wireless mmWave wireless solution for rail networks provides high bandwidth and low latency connectivity from trackside to train. It delivers gigabit data throughput, increased security and cost-effective deployment, utilising the unlicensed frequency band at 57-71 GHz.
The partnership agreement with Westermo follows hot on the heels of Blu Wireless technology being deployed successfully in the high-speed transport market in the US with the CALTRAIN commuter rail line running from San Francisco to San Jose through the heart of Silicon Valley.
In the UK, Blu Wireless’ mmWave technology has been deployed on South Western Railway.
“Westermo is the global market leader in communication on board trains. With this strategic investment and partnership, we are strengthening our position in the connected trains market by gaining access to cutting-edge technology for train-to-ground communication. We see great potential for mmWave technology in the rail sector,” says Jenny Sjödahl, President and CEO, Ependion.
“We have gained a strong industrial partner in the rail sector in Westermo that will help further expand our footprint and commercialise our mmWave wireless technology. This is a major milestone in our development and growth as a company,” – Alan Jones, CEO of Blu Wireless.
The collaboration includes further commercialisation of the mmWave technology in the rail sector as well as joint roadmap for future products. Ependion has acquired a minority stake in Blu Wireless, and as part of the investment, has gained a seat on the Board.
